The clothesline pole and learning to meow were both seen through and countered by Jiang Wei, causing Yi Ming to fall head first onto the bed, lying spread eagle as he stared blankly at the ceiling.
His peripheral vision caught sight of the notebook on the pillow next to him. Yi Ming's eyes flickered briefly before his long arm reached out to grab the notebook and pull it to his side.
If you judged it by human ages, this notebook would be around 7 years old.
Throughout his academic career Yi Ming had gone through countless notebooks, but only this one had always been by his side. Aside from the 3 years of high school mocks and 5 years of gaokao exams, it had been “favored” the most times.
When Yi Ming was 13 years old, he was in middle school. His high IQ wasn’t too obvious in elementary school, but as soon as he entered middle school, a certain person’s grades curved upwards like a dark horse, directly jumping into the top 3 in the grade.
After the final exam scores were published, Yi Ming was chewing gum and loitering in the school hallway with his hands in his pockets as he waited for Jiang Wei. From afar Jiang Wei saw a pair of long legs lazily kicking the ground like a cypress tree and smiled faintly, pretending not to see him as she was about to turn the corner.
Unfortunately, Yi Ming innately had the ability to identify the location of his “little sweetheart” from amongst a group of students leaving school.
He quickly strode over in three steps and blocked Jiang Wei’s path, grinning mischievously, “Running away after seeing me, are you shy?”
Jiang Wei looked up at him. This guy who had just advanced to be “top 3 in the grade” was really full of himself.
“No. I’m going to my aunt’s house today. I won’t be walking home the same way as you. I already told you this morning,” Jiang Wei said softly.
“I know, but you promised me that if I tested into the top 3 in the grade you would give me a present. What, you want to go back on your word?” Yi Ming shamelessly stretched out his long arm to grab two pillars, blocking Jiang Wei’s way. “No, if I don’t get a present I won’t let you leave.”
The students around them who saw the path blocked covered their mouths as they watched the lively scene, then turned to leave down another path.
Jiang Wei looked at him and sighed.
She turned around, took off her backpack, and rifled through it with one hand. Jiang Wei handed Yi Ming a thick object, “Here, for you.”
It was a sky blue notebook.
“Studying hard and striving upwards is what every student should do. You shouldn’t come looking to me for rewards... I bought two notebooks yesterday that I didn’t need, so here, this one’s for you.”
When she said this, Jiang Wei had a completely nonchalant expression on her face.
The moment Yi Ming reached out to take it, Jiang Wei slipped away from his side without a sound. In no time at all her figure had disappeared.
Yi Ming didn’t chase after her either. He happily held the notebook, unable to stop smiling.
He understood Jiang Wei too well. She was a little girl whose words and heart were at odds.
There was a large icon on the bottom right corner of the cover, part of a zodiac series. Yi Ming was born on July 13th - the somewhat stubborn but gentle and kindhearted Cancer.
Right now that huge crab on the cover was baring its pincers at him, as if saying:
She lied to you. She spent a good half hour carefully picking me out and used tissue to meticulously wipe off the dust on my cover before giving me to you!
After that, Yi Ming treasured this notebook.
He couldn’t bear to use it for formulas and lessons. After thinking about it, to give more meaning to this notebook, Yi Ming pasted in all the secret notes he and Jiang Wei had passed to each other over the years. Although the tiny slips of paper had now slightly yellowed from the passage of time, the stories hidden within were still passionately beating in his heart...
