Xiao Yongze took the tablet from Liu Assistant as they exited the hospital room and began walking out. "Boss," Liu Assistant said, "I just checked and there's only one cemetery in the western suburban area, but it's been regulated now and private excavations aren't allowed."
Xiao Yongze pondered for a moment and sighed, "Then we'll have to wait for the police to open a case and investigate. Let them help us with it."
"Understood. How should we handle her for now? Bring her directly to the police station?"
"How long does she have left to live?"
"The doctor said she has at most two months."
Xiao Yongze nodded, "Hmm, then let her stay at the hospital for now. Don't let her die yet. When she's in better condition, we'll take her back to Hai City."
As they spoke, they reached the hospital's main entrance. Xiao Yongze gazed up at the moon and murmured, "Looks like I need to speed things up and get Xiao Wenyao behind bars. At most two weeks, Dad, and I'll bring him home to you."
Liu Assistant observed his usually commanding boss, now seemingly wrapped in a layer of melancholy and tenderness, like an ordinary father longing for his lost child to return home.
Liu Assistant couldn't help but sigh, composing himself as he glanced at his watch. It was already 1:30 AM. "Boss, it's getting late. Shall I take you to a hotel?"
Xiao Yongze snapped out of his thoughts. "What's the earliest flight to Hai City?"
Liu Assistant immediately checked on his device. "The earliest is at 6:30 AM."
Xiao Yongze nodded, "Then let's skip the hotel and head straight to the airport. I'll rest in the lounge overnight."
As they got in the car, Liu Assistant remembered something and retrieved a stack of documents from his briefcase. Turning to Xiao Yongze, he asked, "Boss, here are the profiles of the nannies we investigated earlier. Would you like to review them?"
Xiao Yongze took the documents but set them aside. It didn't really matter whether he looked at them or not - he already knew where his daughter was.
...
Shi Shuning hadn't slept a wink after learning that Ye Jinmeng would be visiting Xiao Yuanning's family. His dark circles rivaled a panda's when he woke up in the morning.
Seeing Ye Jinmeng all dolled up and glowing like a little fairy only made him feel worse. But her cheerful demeanor stopped him from making a fuss over nothing.
Before leaving, Shi Shuning called out to Xu Wanwan, "Wanwan, keep an eye on Mengmeng. Don't let her be alone with that little brat Xiao Yuanning!"
Xu Wanwan stifled a laugh and nodded, "Don't worry, I'll be there."
Only then did Shi Shuning relax. If only they had invited him too, he would have loved to stay glued to Ye Jinmeng's side.
As the car drove off, neither Shi Shuning nor He Junting felt comfortable lingering at the Ye residence, so they each returned to their respective homes and families.
Xiao Yuanning's family lived in the newly built X International Residence District, a housing development exclusively for X International employees. The location was ideal, close to the company, with the property management run by their own staff.
While not free, the prices were remarkably low at only 5,000 yuan per square meter. In this land-starved city of Hai City, it was an absolute steal. Coupled with X International's high salaries, any employee could afford to buy a 100-square-meter apartment outright within just one or two years.
As the big boss, however, Xiao Yongze's family resided in the only luxurious villa within the community.
Upon arriving at the villa, Ye Jinmeng marveled, "The perks of being a global tycoon are truly astounding!"
Xiao Yuanning had been keeping watch in the courtyard and immediately rushed out when he spotted Ye Jinmeng and Xu Wanwan.
"Mengmeng sis, Wanwan sis, you're here! Come in, come in!"
Xiao Yuanning ushered them inside enthusiastically.
"Mengmeng and Wanwan are here! Have a seat and make yourselves at home," Song Jiaxi greeted them warmly.
"Hello, Auntie!" Ye Jinmeng and Xu Wanwan politely responded.
"Auntie, this is a small gift for you and Uncle from us. Just a little token, please don't think too much of it," Ye Jinmeng said, handing over the gift box.
"You sweet girls, you didn't have to bring anything. Just having you here is enough. No more gifts in the future, alright?" Song Jiaxi chided affectionately.
Ye Jinmeng scratched her head and nodded, "Understood, Auntie."
Song Jiaxi couldn't help but smile at how endearing they were. "Good. Let Ningbao show you around for a bit. I'm still cooking up a soup in the kitchen. It should be ready for us to eat in about half an hour."
Ye Jinmeng and Xu Wanwan were about to offer their assistance when Xiao Yuanning called out towards the distance, "Shu Fen, come over and greet your auntie!"
Ye Jinmeng and Xu Wanwan exchanged confused glances. Shu Fen? Auntie? What was going on?
The next moment, a golden Ragdoll cat came trotting over and leapt onto Xiao Yuanning, meowing softly.
Ye Jinmeng's eyes widened. "A... a kitty!"
She adored cats but had always hesitated to adopt one, worried about not being able to care for it properly. She could only admire them through short videos online.
Now, with an actual living, breathing kitten right in front of her, Ye Jinmeng was utterly smitten.
"Can... can I pet it?" she asked tentatively.
Xiao Yuanning immediately brought Shu Fen over to Ye Jinmeng. "Of course! Shu Fen is very well-behaved and loves being petted."
He even asked the cat, "Isn't that right, Shu Fen?"
Shu Fen meowed in response.
Ye Jinmeng gently stroked the cat's round little head as it curled up obediently on her lap, purring contentedly.
Ye Jinmeng looked at Xiao Yuanning excitedly. "It's purring!"
Xiao Yuanning, seeing how much she adored Shu Fen, smiled and said, "Yeah, Shu Fen is pregnant now. If you like, Sister, I can give you one of her kittens after she gives birth."
Ye Jinmeng gasped, realizing Shu Fen's plump belly wasn't from being overweight but from pregnancy. This realization made her even more gentle and cautious in petting the expectant feline.
Xu Wanwan also reached out to stroke Shu Fen, equally enamored by the cat. Having been unable to keep pets in the past, she couldn't resist the idea of co-parenting one with Ye Jinmeng now.
"Mengmeng, do you want to raise one together? We can be cat parents!"
Seeing Xu Wanwan's enthusiasm, Ye Jinmeng eagerly nodded. "Yes! I'll be the mom, and you can be the dad!"
Xu Wanwan: ???
"By the way, where's Uncle Xiao? Is he still busy working even on his day off?"
"Oh, Dad went out of town last night. Not sure when he'll be back."
Ye Jinmeng nodded slightly, suddenly realizing that being the wealthiest person wasn't as easy as it seemed, having to travel around on rest days...
At that moment, the not-so-easygoing wealthiest person in the world, Xiao Yongze, was sitting on a plane, about to land.
Last night, he had left in such a hurry that apart from some clothes, he had only brought one phone.
Out of boredom, he opened the file on the postpartum caregiver and read through it from beginning to end.
Only, the more he read, the more familiar it seemed.
