Until the afternoon, Ye Junwen refused to eat or speak, keeping his eyes closed and sitting in the chair. If it weren't for the occasional flutter of his eyelashes and his straight back, one would think he had fallen asleep.
Policeman Shi glanced at his watch, left the interrogation room, and said to Li, "I need to attend a meeting at Headquarters. Keep an eye on him."
Seeing Li nod, Policeman Shi grabbed his files from the office and drove away from the police station.
Li sighed helplessly as he watched the person in the interrogation room. "Why go through all this trouble?"
Half an hour later, Policeman Shi returned from the meeting.
Li was surprised, "Chief Shi, you're back so soon!"
Policeman Shi nodded, "Yeah, it wasn't a big deal. They insisted on calling a meeting for something that could have been explained over the phone. What a waste of time."
Li laughed, "Haha, I knew it!"
"By the way, how's Ye Junwen doing?"
Li shook his head, "Alas, same as before. He's not saying anything, not eating, not drinking water, just sitting there stubbornly."
Policeman Shi frowned slightly, "Let's go check on him."
Entering the interrogation room, they saw Ye Junwen still sitting motionless. Li raised his eyebrows at Policeman Shi, as if to say, "See, he's that stubborn!"
Policeman Shi gazed at the unmoving man and chuckled, "Are you sure you want to keep this up without saying anything?"
Ye Junwen remained still.
Policeman Shi nodded, "Alright, I have ways to make you talk."
He then gestured to Li, "Unlock the restraints on his interrogation chair. I'm taking him somewhere."
Li was taken aback, "Chief, where are you taking him?"
Policeman Shi smirked coldly, "Of course, to the crime scene. I have a way to make him talk!"
Li remembered Policeman Shi had done this before. The initially tight-lipped suspects would crumble after being taken to the crime scene and hearing what Policeman Shi had to say. Not only would the suspects confess, but even Li felt like confessing after listening to him...
Without hesitation, Li unlocked the restraints on the interrogation chair and tightened the handcuffs around Ye Junwen's wrists.
"Chief, who are you taking?" Li hoped it wouldn't be him; he didn't want to crumble!
As he wished, Policeman Shi smiled meaningfully, "No one else. Sometimes it's easier for me to get a confession when I'm alone."
"Oh, and put some leg restraints on him too, for safety."
"Got it." Li immediately complied.
When the other officers at the station saw Policeman Shi taking Ye Junwen away, they asked Li what was going on.
Li replied, "The Chief is pulling out the big guns. He's taking him to the crime scene..."
Sun frowned, "Will the Chief be okay going alone? Shouldn't he take someone with him?"
Li reassured, "He said he works better alone. Besides, Policeman Shi is so strong, and Ye Junwen is so securely restrained, he can't escape."
...
The police car sped along the road, with Ye Junwen sitting in the back, eyeing the handcuffs and leg restraints on his wrists and ankles. He contemplated strangling Policeman Shi, who was driving, with the chain connecting the handcuffs and then escaping.
Policeman Shi noticed Ye Junwen's conflicted expression in the rearview mirror and chuckled softly without saying a word.
Feeling insulted, Ye Junwen glared fiercely at the driver and slowly moved towards the spot directly behind the driver's seat.
Just as he was about to use the chain to strangle Policeman Shi's neck, a sharp turn caused Ye Junwen to lose his balance and fall onto the back seat.
"Ugh..." His head hit the car door, eliciting a pained groan from Ye Junwen.
"Are you alright?" Policeman Shi looked at Ye Junwen's grimacing face in the rearview mirror with concern.
"Can't you drive properly?" Ye Junwen was irritated, not only for being caught but also for having to endure such humiliation!
"My apologies," Policeman Shi sincerely apologized.
Huh? What's going on? Ye Junwen stared at him, bewildered, as if he had seen a ghost.
Could this be Policeman Shi's tactic to confuse him and make him confess?
It must be! He can't fall for it!
With this thought, Ye Junwen snorted coldly and remained silent.
The car arrived at a deserted area, causing Ye Junwen to frown. Weren't they supposed to go to the crime scene? Why this desolate place?
The police car slowly pulled over, and Policeman Shi got out, opening the rear door and dragging Ye Junwen out.
Policeman Shi was burly, making Ye Junwen look like a small, weak chick in comparison. With the handcuffs and leg restraints, Ye Junwen was as helpless as a lamb awaiting slaughter, allowing Policeman Shi to manhandle him.
They approached an off-road vehicle, and Policeman Shi shoved Ye Junwen into the passenger seat, fastening his seatbelt before returning to the driver's seat and starting the car.
Back at the police station...
As soon as Policeman Shi entered with the files, the others approached him, eager to know what had happened.
Li asked, "Chief, how did it go? What method did you use? Did he confess?"
Policeman Shi looked puzzled, "What confession? What are you all blabbering about?"
"You know, Ye Junwen! Wait, why are you alone? Where's Ye Junwen? Don't tell me you left him at the crime scene!"
Policeman Shi was confused, "Hold on, what do you mean? What about Ye Junwen? Wasn't he in the interrogation room? I went to the Headquarters for a meeting and told you to keep an eye on him."
Everyone looked bewildered.
Zhao clarified, "No, Chief. You went out for the meeting and came back in half an hour. When you saw Ye Junwen still wasn't confessing in the interrogation room, you said you had a way to make him confess and took him to the crime scene. You didn't even let us come with you."
"What? I just got back from the meeting. How could I have returned halfway, taken him away to the crime scene? Do you think I can be in two places at once..."
Before he could finish, Policeman Shi realized something was amiss, and a name flashed in his mind.
"Oh no, quick, check the surveillance footage!"
He rushed towards the surveillance room as he spoke.
Seeing his urgency, the others exchanged glances and uttered the same name in unison, "Zhen Kechuan!"
The vehicle sped along the deserted mountain road, leaving Ye Junwen puzzled about their purpose.
Was Policeman Shi planning to kill him in this remote area since he wouldn't confess?
Ye Junwen's hair stood on end, and he trembled as he spoke, "I'm telling you, murder is illegal. As a police officer, committing a crime would be a serious offense!"
Policeman Shi paused briefly before bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha..."
"What's so funny?" Ye Junwen felt embarrassed.
"Hahaha, I'm laughing at how naive you are. Can't you figure out who I am by now? Child."
