What does it mean, "spared her life back then, just for today"?
Chloe instinctively sensed something was wrong and, grabbing Anderson's hand, began to run outside.
Come on, their intentions couldn't be any clearer by now – if Chloe didn't understand what was going on, she'd be a genuine idiot!
They reacted swiftly, but the black-robed man was surprisingly agile.
In an instant, he was standing in their path, directly blocking their escape.
Chloe abruptly stopped, warily surveying the man before her.
Despite their proximity, she couldn't distinguish the features of the black-robed man.
It was as if a shifting mist floated over his face, making his features elusive and indistinct.
Chloe hesitated for half a second before her gaze hardened. Without waiting for the black-robed man to utter a word, she drew her large sword and swung it straight toward him!
The sharp edge of the blade barely grazed the black-robed man's neck, missing by a fraction due to his dodge.
Chloe's power and speed were top-notch, and the fact that he could evade her blade proved that the black robed man was anything but simple.
At least, he was a lot more troublesome than they initially thought.
Having successfully evaded her attack, the black robed man curled his lips into a smirk and was about to say something when he saw Chloe sheathing her blade and briskly walking away without a backward glance.
Her swift departure made it seem like she had the nimbleness of a monkey.
The black-robed man was taken aback, "..."
After a while, he glanced at his subordinate who had followed him and gave a cold command, "Keep an eye on them, and don’t let them leave the camp."
"Yes, sir!"
Watching Chloe's figure gradually disappear into the distance, the black-robed man stroked his robe sleeve and mocked, "She sure runs fast."
Meanwhile, in the large bustling camp, Chloe was doing her best to hide and seek, completely unaware that she had just received a strange and unexpected compliment.
Of course, even if she'd know, all she would do was curse the black-robed man for being crazy.
She wasn't a fool to openly confront someone knowing their overwhelming strength. Dealing with just the two of them might be manageable, but they were only five in a camp of thousands of people.
Obviously, the best thing to do was to run. If not, what? Wait around to get beaten?
Chloe silently descended onto the peak of a large tent. This area, hidden from view and deserted, didn't seem to be under search currently.
After a long and deep breath, she asked, "Do you see Qin Huaibei and the others?"
Anderson withdrew his gaze and shook his head, "No."
This was troublesome. Chloe decisively began to fiddle with her terminal.
【World's Number One】: Where are you?
About three or four minutes later.
【QHB】: Ran into some trouble, just finished dealing with a group of people. Where are you?
【World's Number One】: Above.
Just as the message was sent, two figures appeared beneath the tent.
Chloe took out a throwing knife from her waist and accurately tossed it near Qin Huaibei's feet.
Realizing the sudden movement, Qin Huaibei stopped and instinctively looked up—
Chloe was lying atop the tent, smiling merrily at them.
Subconsciously smiling back, Qin Huaibei grabbed Katherine's hand and hurried to climb up the tent.
After steadying himself, Qin Huaibei looked around. “Daniel's not here?”
“No, he’s not,” Chloe replied, glancing down to send a message. “I’m currently trying to contact him.”
The response from Daniel arrived shortly after the message was sent.
As the signal sound echoed from the device, everyone crowded in to see.
[TheStrongestWolf]: If you don't want him to die, come back.
As soon as they read the words, all of their faces stiffened into shocked expressions.
Had Daniel been captured?
Qin Huaibei’s face was grave. "What does he mean by 'come back'? Where to?"
"...Follow me."
With that, Chloe left the hard-found hideout and led the way back from where they came.
Regrettably, if they had known this would happen, they wouldn’t have left Daniel behind.
Sly Viper Group, always aiming at the weakest links.
…
Inside the tent, Daniel was utterly at a loss as to how he ended up in this trap.
Wasn't it that he saw a cute wild kitten on the road and just reached out to play with it a little? How did he end up knocked out and captured?
It wasn't someone else who stunned him—it was the same little wild kitten he had petted.
These days, even cats could be lethal. Absurd!
Now, Daniel was all tied up and dumped in the corner. He was trying to wriggle free from the ropes while cussing under his breath.
Sadly, no one paid any attention to his state.
Not far from him, a few research staff of the Viper Group were looking at Daniel’s device with furrowed brows.
“It’s been a while, and no response. Could it be they aren't coming?” one of them suggested.
"Unlikely, we still have that guy", he added casually, pointing towards Daniel.
Another chimed in, still unsure, "What if they're not that close after all?"
"I remember them having a quite strong relationship."
"Maybe it's just a marketing strategy. We've been waiting for a response for a long time, maybe they just don't care. I mean, look at his user ID, it's so silly. If I were them, I wouldn't care either."
Daniel didn't care much about what they said until the last sentence.
Absolutely intolerable. Daniel roared, “What's wrong with my ID? Is it not apt? You’re criticising my ID as stupid? That’s because you lack taste!”
“Chloe said my username was stunning!”
The researchers of the Viper Group glanced at the 'World's No. 1' on his device and scorned.
“You're all the same, equally stupid."
Enraged by their remarks, Daniel cursed vehemently, "I damn hope you run out of toilet paper for the rest of your life!"
But his rant went ignored. They found him too noisy and moved a bit further away, continuing their discussion about the foolish IDs of The No.1 Military Academy students.
In the midst of their fervent discussion, a broadsword flew directly from a distance, chopping the two bodies clean in half.
Their bodies were cut at the waist, blood staining the ground.
Chloe stormed in, her eyes filled with fury. Another swing of the sword sliced Daniel’s ropes free.
Daniel, moved to tears, cried, “I knew you wouldn't abandon me!”
Chloe retorted, “Enough chatter, let's get out of here.”
Daniel wiped away his tears, "You don't know how awful they've been, making fun of our ID's stupidity, and trying to create a rift between us."
Chloe was taken aback, "What, they dared to call our IDs stupid?”
Daniel nodded furiously, “Exactly!”
So, as Chloe carried Daniel away, she stomped hard twice more on the two men's bodies.
Serves those myopic jerks right for ending up in this state.
However, they had barely left the tent when they stopped dead in their tracks.
The reason being, the Black Robed Man had gathered everyone at the campsite and surrounded their tent.
The Black Robed Man said:
"Miss Chloe, how about we sit down and have a proper discussion?"
