Daniel was stubborn unto death, ultimately escaping without stealing the dog's clothing. After a few detours, he finally found an isolated person, gleefully stripped him off his clothes and ran.
Five people in total, dressed as guards from the Viper Group, sneaked into the crowd.
The open space was vast, and correspondingly, there were many tents.
Compared to a human army camp, the number was quite similar, even a bit more.
Operating as an entire group was too conspicuous, so they discussed amongst each other and decided to split into pairs.
Chloe and Anderson, Qin Huaibei and Katherine, leaving just Daniel alone.
The little wolf was shocked, angry, and threw a tantrum.
Daniel felt wronged: "Why am I the only one left out?!"
Knowing that this person was in a foul mood, Chloe expertly flattered him:
"What else could it be? It's because you're the strongest."
Hearing this, Daniel was stunned: "Is that so?"
"Of course!" Qin Huaibei also played along, seriously appeasing, "Why do we need to pair up? Isn't it because we lack confidence in our strength, because we aren't strong enough? Our Daniel, being the bravest warrior of the Werewolf Race, is clearly capable of handling everything on his own. Why would he need us teammates to slow him down?"
At the end of this speech, Daniel reluctantly believed their lies:
"…Well, that's natural."
Daniel was all fired up, directing, "You two go that way, you two go over there. I'll handle the rest. Any objections?"
Chloe humbly accepted: "No objections."
Having said that, she and Anderson ran in the direction pointed by Daniel.
The guards in this area were plenteous. Chloe led the group without causing any suspicion. As they passed a large tent, she rolled right inside.
The tent was huge, more like a shed now.
Inside was full of various materials and cages. What was inside the cases was unknown, but the cages housed sleeping beasts covered in wounds, the victims of experimental drug injections.
Their stealthy entrance didn't raise any alarm.
Chloe was hiding behind a stack of boxes, with Anderson right behind her.
After hiding for a while, she was irritated by Anderson's heavy breathing. She turned around to cover his mouth and nose, raising her index finger in a hush motion.
Anderson closed his lips tightly and nodded to show that he understood.
As expected, his breathing quietened.
Chloe was satisfied, retracted her hand, and continued to peep from behind the crates.
There were not just patrol guards here but also wild beasts with an exceptional sense of smell and vision.
She guessed the cages inside the shed were just the tip of the iceberg; after all, the experimental creatures they produced had numerous and varied traits, so it wouldn’t be possible to bring them all out.
While Chloe was lying low, she heard the sound of a whip hitting the bars of a cage.
A shrill voice rang out:
"You ungrateful creature, showing your teeth at me when I'm feeding you an extra meal… don't you value your life?!"
At end of the sentence, another round of whipping began, this time more forcefully than the previous.
Throughout the air, ferocious roars echoed, their thunderous sounds deafening.
These were the true screams of the king of the jungle, each terrifying enough to give one goosebumps.
The roars echoed throughout the encampment, the man holding the whip seemed to panic, he cried out sternly, "What a ruckus you're making! Do you plan on calling in every wild beast?! I’ll show what happens when you raise a ruckus!”
The sound of the whip was neverending, yet the beast’s growls grew fiercer and more defiant.
The whip holder was scared this time and wanted to escape, but suddenly someone entered the tent: "That's how you train a beast? Get the hell over here!"
The once arrogant man immediately cowered, quickly walked in front of the newcomer.
Then, the sound of a powerful slap echoed.
"Worthless."
"If you can’t even tame Little Seven in three days, wait for your family to collect your corpse."
From his tone, it sounded like the newcomer left after uttering these words.
The tent fell into silence for a while. It seemed that the beast trainer was not willing to accept his fate. Yet, Chloe heard the whip noises again.
This time it was particularly harsh, likely venting his inner dissatisfaction.
Chloe couldn’t help but slightly furrow her brow. She cautiously peered through the gaps in the box at a short distance.
From here, she had a clear view of the outside.
Roughly about two hundred meters from here, a gigantic iron cage was laid on the ground, confining an oversized tiger.
The oversized tiger was not fat, but in contrast, was extremely robust and sturdy. Almost five times the size of a normal tiger.
Chloe did a rough estimation. If she attempted to measure this animal, she would need at least ten plus of herself to match the height of the tiger.
Its appearance... even appeared to be far more massive than the original form of Daniel.
As Chloe was thinking about it, she spotted the tiger inside the cage actually look back in her direction!
Chloe immediately broke out in cold sweat.
The tiger's movements were so sudden that it was already too late to hide.
She was even prepared for an immediate conceivable encounter.
However, unexpectedly, this fiercely roaring tiger didn't do any eye-catching moves.
The tiger just glanced at her and then looked away.
Chloe was stupefied. To be on the safe side, she retreated back behind the crate.
With her heart pounding, she heard Anderson's voice come from the side.
"What does the young miss plan to do?"
With his voice was very low, if it wasn't for the close distance, Chloe probably wouldn't heard anything.
Taking a deep breath, Chloe replied: "When that man leaves, we'll go take a look."
As for what to look at, it was of course, that tiger.
For some reason, at the point when Chloe looked into the tiger's eyes, she felt not only fear but some strange emotions as well.
Yet what exactly it was... Chloe couldn’t describe.
Damn, it can’t be that the tiger is actually her mother, could it?
That would just be absurd.
After some time, the beast trainer finally finished venting his anger, and left angrily.
Before leaving, he threatened the tiger: "Just you wait, I'll have you following my rear, eating my dust one day!"
Chloe: "..."
She wore her disgust plainly.
The animal tamer left for about ten minutes, and Chloe, certain that nobody else would enter, finally stepped out from behind the box.
As she moved, she saw, some two hundred metres away from them, the tiger in the iron cage turning its head towards them.
Those majestic and lonely pale-green eyes.
Seeing it showed no signs of harm, Chloe contemplated and, in the end, decided to approach the tiger.
