The Genius Female Forensic Pathologist, The Psychological Anatomist

Chapter 87

Zhou Junwei looked at Mu Mian's blank expression and suddenly felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

They were the same kind of people after all. They couldn't have emotions. Now that Mu Mian had lost the person she loved most, she would never be able to experience the most passionate love again. This was fair.

Zhou Junwei excitedly said, "Dr. Mu, you've won. I promised you that if you won my game, I would let you go. Now you can leave with Police Officer Fang's body. I'll keep my promise and let you both go."

Mu Mian stared at them expressionlessly. In her mind, she imagined a scene of torture. She would lock Zhou Junwei in a specially made cage, where every part could potentially deliver an electric shock. The shocks wouldn't be fatal, but they would cause extreme pain. Zhou Junwei would live in constant fear and agony.

As for Zhang Ming, he would be forced to watch Zhou Junwei's torment from outside the cage. He wouldn't even be able to close his eyes, forced to witness this cruelty and endure mental torture.

Mu Mian regained some of her rationality. She became clearly aware again that Fang Rui was dead.

"Dr. Mu, you were very clever to find the 'optimal solution' logically. But you didn't love each other enough. If neither of you had pressed the button, the voltage would have remained at 30V. Both of you enduring the shock together would have been the best solution to this game. Unfortunately, I've tested so many couples, and not one has found the right method."

Zhou Junwei continued, "But Dr. Mu, you should thank me. Look, I helped you test how much Police Officer Fang loved you."

Zhang Ming walked over to Fang Rui's side, intending to untie the ropes on his body to return his corpse to Mu Mian. He had just bent down to undo the ropes when he realized they were already loose. Before he could be surprised, he felt a punch to his abdomen.

Zhang Ming felt as if his internal organs had been shattered, and he let out a painful groan.

A rope tightened around his hands, and in no time, his hands were tied behind his back, and he was thrown heavily to the ground.

Everything happened so quickly that Zhou Junwei and Mu Mian just stared in shock.

Mu Mian felt as if fireworks were exploding in her brain. Fang Rui... had somehow come back to life. But dead people can't come back to life. Had something gone wrong? Was it her mind?

"You... why didn't you die from electrocution?" Zhou Junwei asked in astonishment. "Were you pretending to be dead earlier? How did you escape the electric shock..."

Fang Rui didn't answer his questions. Instead, he beat Zhou Junwei up and then tied him together with Zhang Ming.

Zhou Junwei looked at the strange shoes on Fang Rui's feet and finally found the answer - Fang Rui was wearing insulated shoes. Then he noticed that the indicator light on the device that should have been on was actually off - there had been a power outage in the warehouse.

"You were lying to me! You weren't sacrificing yourself for love at all. What I saw wasn't love. You're a fraud!" Zhou Junwei flew into a rage, struggling violently to break free from the ropes.

Fang Rui walked over to Mu Mian, untied her ropes, and removed the black electrode cap from her head.

Mu Mian stared at him blankly. Was this a hallucination? Had she started having visions of Fang Rui so soon after his death because she missed him so much?

"Mu Mian, is this really the time to be spacing out?"

Mu Mian thought she must be seriously ill if this imaginary figure had started talking to her.

Fang Rui sighed and pulled Mu Mian into an embrace. "Mu Mian, it's all over now. We're safe."

The warm touch made Mu Mian's mind a little clearer. She thought her hallucination must be very advanced to have both tactile sensation and temperature.

Mu Mian couldn't help but speak to this imaginary figure: "Fang Rui, don't be afraid. I won't seek treatment, so you can stay with me forever as a hallucination."

Fang Rui finally realized something was wrong with Mu Mian. He patted her face gently. "Mu Mian, I'm not dead. I was just pretending earlier to trick them. You haven't gone into shock, have you? You can touch me to see if I'm real."

Mu Mian rested her head against Fang Rui's chest, feeling his strong heartbeat - a sign that Fang Rui was still alive.

"You're... still alive?"

"Dr. Mu, you're being very unprofessional. Can't you tell the difference between a dead person and a living one?"

"Fang Rui, my brain short-circuited earlier. It was thinking so slowly. I was so scared. I thought you had died, and that I would never see you again."

"But I'm alive now, aren't I? Come on, don't be sad. How about this - I'll give you my body donation agreement later. That should make you feel better, right?"

"Fang Rui, stop talking. You're being noisy." For some reason, Mu Mian felt irritated. She had always wanted to have Fang Rui's body, but now that she was finally going to get it, why didn't she want it anymore?

Perhaps it was because she now wanted Fang Rui to live, to live for a very long time. She didn't want Fang Rui to die.

Mu Mian suddenly realized she didn't want Fang Rui's body as much as she thought she did.

At that moment, the sound of vehicles and faint footsteps came from outside the warehouse.

Fang Rui let go of Mu Mian.

When everyone rushed into the warehouse, expecting to see a tense and thrilling scene, they were surprised to find that Fang Rui and Mu Mian had already successfully escaped and were waiting for their support.

Zhang burst into tears of joy. "Boss, Dr. Mu, I knew you'd be alright."

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"Mian," Shen Xiyin ran over and hugged Mu Mian, "I'm so glad you're okay. You scared your big sister to death."

Mu Mian hugged Shen Xiyin back.

"Sister, I'm sorry. I didn't want to be kidnapped by the criminals either, it was just really bad luck. Fang Rui could have protected me, but these two were too despicable. They ambushed Fang Rui, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to overpower him. They almost killed Fang Rui and nearly drove me insane. If Fang Rui had died, I would have had to imagine a Fang Rui to keep me company."

Shen Xiyin was stunned. She hadn't realized how important Fang Rui was to Mu Mian.

The others who heard Mu Mian's words were also shocked. They all looked at Fang Rui with knowing glances.

Mu Mian noticed her sister's complex expression and thought Shen Xiyin was unhappy. So she tried to comfort her: "Sister, if you died, I would imagine a version of you to keep me company too. No, I'd have to imagine two of you - one to deal with all my problems and work hard to make money to support me."

Everyone was speechless. So for every person who died, Mu Mian would imagine a replacement. They really couldn't keep up with Mu Mian's train of thought.
