My Mother-in-Law and I Became the Internet’s Hottest Power Couple

Chapter 10

Yu Wanqiu: “Professional gamers?”

Xia Jing replied, “A few years ago, esports was added to the Olympic events. Professional players can bring glory to the country by competing, and *Honor of Kings* is one of those esports. If you agree, the organizers will send Zheng Rong, the captain of last year’s Spring Season champion team TG, along with their mid-laner Sa Sa and last year’s FMVP, UK’s Qing Ying.”

A jungler, a mid-laner, and a top-laner—these three were the faces of the *Honor of Kings* professional scene, and all of them were exceptionally handsome.

Yu Wanqiu remained silent, so Xia Jing added, “If you refuse, you and Jiang Lan should still think about your livestream content.”

Since they weren’t professional streamers, they could chat, showcase talents, or even do outdoor streams.

Truthfully, Xia Jing wanted to ask if they could do a livestream with Lu Yicheng, but considering it had only been a week and the future was uncertain, she held back.

Yu Wanqiu asked, “Are they good at the game?”

Xia Jing answered honestly, “The best players in the country are right here.”

Yu Wanqiu: “Then I’ll ask Jiang Lan.”

Xia Jing hummed in acknowledgment before adding, “I watched the show. You seem to like her quite a bit?”

Yu Wanqiu didn’t want to discuss this on the show, and she didn’t think she particularly liked Jiang Lan. “It’s nothing special. I’ll give you an answer later.”

Xia Jing hung up. She was Yu Wanqiu’s agent and was temporarily acting as Jiang Lan’s as well, though Jiang Lan didn’t seem interested in entering the entertainment industry.

At 7:20 AM, Jiang Lan emerged from her room. She had checked the delivery status—since it was a local shipment, the package would arrive that afternoon. She had already planned it out: the clothes needed washing, and yoga could wait until tomorrow.

“Good morning, Teacher Yu!”

Yu Wanqiu nodded. “Mm. Xia Jing just asked if we’d be interested in doing a gaming livestream with professional players. What do you think?”

Jiang Lan’s eyes lit up. *Professional players!* The kind who were insanely skilled, dominating the leaderboards with ease, cutting down enemies like vegetables?

“Teacher Yu, how many are there?”

Yu Wanqiu said, “Three.”

“Yes, yes, yes!”

Yu Wanqiu: “Then it’s settled.”

Soon, Xia Jing forwarded the three players’ WeChat contacts. Jiang Lan added them in-game and looked them up online—they were not only skilled but also incredibly good-looking, each with over ten million followers.

In the afternoon, the production team arrived to set up the livestream equipment: gaming chairs, high-performance computers, cameras, sound cards… all installed in the central room.

Even the backdrop was redesigned.

At 4 PM, Yu Wanqiu posted on Weibo:

**[Yu WanqiuY: Making a wish—can I reach King tier today? See you at 8 PM on DouMao Video, room number 2315762. @JiangLan @TG.ZhengRong @TG.SaSa @UK.QingYing]**

After the post went live, Zheng Rong, Sa Sa, and Qing Ying immediately reposted it. Jiang Lan did the same.

Fans had just watched the first episode last night, and now there was a livestream—*with professional players!* The comments section exploded.

**[Livestreaming *Honor of Kings*!]**

**[Zheng Rong, Sa Sa, and Qing Ying?! No way!]**

**[This is the joy of being Yu Wanqiu’s daughter-in-law!]**

Many camped out in the livestream room. The moment it hit 8 PM, they frantically refreshed the page—finally, the screen changed.

**[Mom! Wait—*wife*!]**

**[I’m here, I’m here!]**

It was Yu Wanqiu’s first livestream, and she wasn’t entirely comfortable yet. She leaned close to the camera, her flawless beauty undeniable even up close. “Hello, everyone. I’m Yu Wanqiu. Today, we’ll be playing games and chatting—please don’t send gifts.”

Jiang Lan quickly logged into the game and invited the three pros. “Hi, everyone! I’m Jiang Lan. Today, we’re playing with TG’s Zheng Rong and Sa Sa, as well as UK’s Qing Ying.”

Soon, the three joined the lobby, and Jiang Lan turned on voice chat.

The pros were using low-ranked “smurf” accounts. Within seconds, their mics lit up. Zheng Rong spoke first—his voice was the quintessential “playboy jungler” tone. “Hello, Teacher Yu, hello, Sister Jiang Lan. I’m Zheng Rong. Uh… today, we’re doing a five-stack with Teacher Yu. Fellow pros and streamers watching, please go easy on us. Don’t queue-snipe. *Please.*”

Sa Sa chimed in, “If we lose, our captain won’t have a face left.”

Qing Ying, the top-laner, was quiet, offering only a brief “Hello” before falling silent.

Yu Wanqiu was currently Silver III, three stars—just a step away from Gold, and about forty stars from Diamond.

With *three* professional players, even one could solo-carry. Zheng Rong locked in his signature assassin, *Lance*, while Sa Sa picked the mage-assassin *Kagura*. Qing Ying filled with a tanky top-laner, and Jiang Lan chose *Ling* (the marksman).

Six minutes into the first match, the enemy team surrendered. The score was 26-0. With the pros showing off, Yu Wanqiu secured three kills and two assists.

Zheng Rong coughed. “Shall we… just queue for the next one?”

The first game had almost no communication—Zheng Rong was a little nervous. He’d worried about carrying, since most female players preferred mages or supports. He’d planned to have Sa Sa play marksman, but… Jiang Lan was *good*.

Though it was just a Silver-tier match, Jiang Lan and Yu Wanqiu had been duoing with a high win rate, so their hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) was inflated. Some opponents were clearly above their rank.

He checked Jiang Lan’s gameplay twice:

First, she dove under the enemy tower to kill their *Damon* (marksman), dodging his ult with precise movement, then bursting him down with skill combos before evading tower damage and even saving their *Miya* (support) without losing a sliver of health.

The second time, she invaded the enemy jungle, outplaying their jungler and mid-laner in a 1v2, then *giving the kills to Yu Wanqiu*.

With four skilled players carrying one, Yu Wanqiu’s *Miya* required no babysitting. Zheng Rong just farmed and secured objectives—the side lanes were already dominating. For them, this was *too easy*.

In the second match, Jiang Lan asked, “Teacher Yu, want to try another hero?”

So far, Yu Wanqiu had only played *Miya*. Though she’d gotten kills, they were mostly secured by others. Now, with seven heroes unlocked, she chose *Alice* (a burst mage).

*Alice*’s kit allowed her to delete squishy targets if she ambushed them from bushes.

Jiang Lan picked *Hook* (a support with a pull ability).

Early game, they played safe, clearing minion waves. After hitting level four, Jiang Lan led Yu Wanqiu into the river-side bush.

Yu Wanqiu: “Jiang Lan, there’s no one here.”

Jiang Lan: “Teacher Yu, patience. I’ll hook them over—you just kill.”

Moments later, the enemy mage (*Angela*) wandered into the river—only for a hook to yank her into the bush. Yu Wanqiu instantly unleashed all three skills, deleting *Angela* before she could even flash away.

They bought items, then repeated the ambush. *Angela* died three times in a row before refusing to leave her tower.

Next, they turned their attention to the enemy marksman and jungler. Aside from the tanky support and top-laner, who could survive *Alice*’s burst, the other three squishies stood no chance.

Yu Wanqiu discovered a new kind of joy:

The thrill of securing her *own* kills.

With the jungler giving her blue buffs and *Hook* landing nearly every pull, *Alice* went on a rampage.

The enemy Marksman timidly hid behind the Ange(la), when suddenly a friendly message popped up in the bottom-left corner of the screen:

[CutiePatootie (Master Yi): Zhong Kui, did you just get dumped today?]

If it were just Ahri, it wouldn’t be scary—just avoid the bushes. But with Zhong Kui in the mix, even hiding under the turret wouldn’t save you from getting hooked out.

[lyczdc: ?]

The chat exploded with laughter.

【Master Yi: Zhong Kui, just delete me already】

【Gotta admit, Jiang Lan’s Zhong Kui hooks are on point】

Zheng Rong, seeing the two having fun, wasn’t in a hurry to push towers. He farmed jungle, took objectives, and left the last sliver of health on the blue buff before stopping. “Teacher Yu, come take the blue. The enemy’s respawning soon—I’ll get Jiang Lan one later.”

Sa Sa: “Am I hallucinating? You’re giving away buffs?”

Zheng Rong shot back, “Problem?”

Sa Sa immediately pivoted, piloting Miss Fortune toward the red buff. “Then I’ll take the red.”

Zheng Rong: “Piss off.”

Anyone familiar with Zheng Rong’s streams or professional esports knew he *never* gave up buffs. He carried hard, needed cooldown reduction, and with his skill level, teammates never complained.

Sa Sa, for one, had *never* gotten a blue from Zheng Rong. Want a buff? Steal the enemy’s. Expect the jungler to help? Dream on.

Today was a first.

The chat was baffled.

【Blink-blink, hubby’s gone soft?】

【Sa Sa: After all we’ve been through…】

【Chill, it’s just a fun match for Teacher Yu. A buff gift isn’t that deep】

【But Zheng Rong’s mana’s only half gone?】

【But Zheng Rong. Never. Shares. Buffs.】

【He even saved Jiang Lan earlier】

【Jiang Lan’s so pretty, and Teacher Yu too—age can’t dull true beauty】

【Lowkey shipping them ngl】

【STOP REACHING! Sure, playing with a pro is fun, but Jiang Lan HAS A BOYFRIEND】

【Yeah, not everyone’s replaceable】

【Back off Zheng Rong! Respect boundaries, she’s TAKEN】

【Jiang Lan’s only interacting with Teacher Yu, what’s the issue?】

Then, a shower of glittering effects lit up the top of Jiang Lan’s stream.

[lyc gifted 10 Rockets to the streamer]

[lyc gifted 20 Rockets to the streamer]

On the platform, viewers could send gifts—$100 for a Plane, $500 for a Rocket, $2,000 for a Super Rocket. Big spenders got colored chat, but since Yu Wanqiu and Jiang Lan weren’t full-time streamers, they’d asked fans not to donate.

Yu Wanqiu’s fans spanned all ages, with some working adults sending the occasional Rocket. Jiang Lan’s side had far fewer donors.

But the user “lyc” just dropped 30 Rockets—$15,000 total.

Jiang Lan checked her stream alerts. “Guys, *please* don’t send gifts. Really, don’t.”

As she spoke, lyc sent *another* 10 Rockets.

A golden message flashed past: 【Don’t block me, I can explain】—but it vanished instantly in the spam.

“Ugh, why won’t they listen? I’m not a pro streamer; gifts are unnecessary…” Jiang Lan knew the platform took a 50% cut. This was just burning money.

【lyc…?】

【Jiang Lan’s in-game ID starts with ‘lyc’ too. I always wondered what it meant. Hmm.】

【Lu Yicheng? Then what’s ‘zdc’?】

【Streamer… ever considered this might be your *boyfriend*?】
