After Rebirth, I Married the Archenemy of My Ex-Husband

Chapter 317

Qin Jiang took two seconds to understand what An Nuan was saying.

"Do you mean you're looking for evidence in Laitan Town?"

"Yes," An Nuan nodded. "You go directly to find Ye Jinghuai. I'll stay here to find the evidence. Once we have all the evidence, I'll directly contact the police in Qing City for backup. You just keep yourselves safe. Trust me, I can come save you!"

Qin Jiang was visibly hesitant for several seconds.

He thought for a bit then said, "Alright, you and Hu Feng stay in Laitan Town and look for evidence while requesting backup. But..."

"No, I'll stay by myself," An Nuan interjected.

"No way!" Qin Jiang stated plainly.

"Qin Jiang, listen to me. Currently no one knows we're still looking for more evidence. So they don't have their guard up against me, just like when we took Jason away. I'll be safe. But it's different for you two. You're going after the big boss, the danger level is naturally very high. And can you really drive properly while controlling Jason at the same time? You definitely need someone by your side."

"Ye Jinghuai wouldn't let me leave you behind like this." Qin Jiang said with certainty.

"I'm not asking you to abandon me. I have my own plans. Qin Jiang, I was never with Ye JInghuai because I wanted to take advantage of him. I'm with him so we can help each other. You have to believe I'm capable of protecting myself and helping you guys too!"

Qin Jiang still hesitated.

An Nuan didn't say anything more. She turned to Hu Feng, "Stop the car."

Hu Feng was clearly looking to Qin Jiang for direction.

But Qin Jiang still didn't react.

"Qin Jiang, could it be you also don't want Ye Jinghuai's wife to be so useless?" An Nuan asked earnestly.

She knew Qin Jiang idolized Ye Jinghuai.

If not for the idolization, he wouldn't follow Ye Jinghuai's every arrangement so obediently.

So Qin Jiang also didn't want Ye Jinghuai's other half to only drag him down. He'd prefer someone who could stand shoulder to shoulder with Ye Jinghuai.

Qin Jiang said, "Alright, you stay and look for evidence while requesting backup. But An Nuan, you must protect yourself. Your life is most important no matter what."

"I know," she replied.

Hu Feng stopped the car.

An Nuan got out.

Qin Jiang took one last look back at An Nuan before Hu Feng drove off, leaving her behind.

To him, Ye Jinghuai was more important than anything or anyone else.

So no matter what he did, Ye Jinghuai's life came first!

Hopefully An Nuan wasn't as weak as they imagined!

After the sedan left, An Nuan headed back to the hotel they were staying at. Since they hadn't checked out yet, she could just walk right in.

She wondered...

Could anything be left in the factory after the big fire?

Did Ye Jinghuai obtain any evidence?

If he did, where did he leave it?

An Nuan was lost in thought about many things.

Truthfully, she couldn't fall asleep.

And since she couldn't sleep, she clearly jumped in fright when she heard footsteps outside her room. A sense of foreboding instantly crept up from her heart.

An Nuan didn't hesitate at all. She hurriedly opened the window in the room and climbed out.

Her hands gripped the window frame tightly as she dangled outside.

The hotel wasn't very tall. An Nuan was on the 3rd floor. She reckoned that even if she fell, she probably wouldn't die. That thought reassured her as she struggled to hang on.

Then she heard the room door get violently kicked open.

An Nuan held her breath.

Clearly there were footsteps inside the room. It sounded like more than one person, coming and going several times, seemingly searching for something. After about 5 minutes, An Nuan heard an unfamiliar man's voice say, "No checkout, but the luggage is gone and no one's in the room. Suspected to have already left."

An Nuan couldn't hear the reply.

She just gradually sensed people leaving the room until there was complete silence.

An Nuan gritted her teeth.

She tried very hard to pull herself up, only to realize she didn't have the arm strength to climb back in.

So she could only jump down right?

An Nuan looked below again.

Three floors wasn't exactly low.

If she didn't land properly, she could still die.

An Nuan felt she was already at her limit.

Suddenly the window below her on the 2nd floor opened.

With no chance to think, An Nuan just yelled loudly at them, "Help, help!"

The person on the 2nd floor was probably startled. It took them awhile before poking their head out to see An Nuan hanging outside the window above.

"Why are you dangling up there?" the person inside asked in shock.

"Long story. Please big sis, go upstairs and pull me in. My room door is probably still open. I can't hang on much longer."

"Okay, okay, hang in there!" The woman hurriedly replied before urging her husband, "Hurry, go save her!"

Then An Nuan quickly heard noise again from the room as the middle-aged couple appeared at the window below. The two pulled strongly together until An Nuan was back inside.

An Nuan broke out in cold sweat too.

If not for her luck today, she may very well have died tonight.

"What are you doing climbing out the window for no reason?" The middle-aged woman still couldn't believe it as she admonished An Nuan.

"My husband and I had a fight. He wanted to beat me to death so I ran out. How would I know he'd find me and I panicked climbing out the window." An Nuan casually made up an excuse. "Anyway, thank you for saving me tonight."

"Should we call the police?" The woman asked worriedly.

"No need, no need. I'm leaving Laitan Town anyway. He can't find me once I'm in Qing City." An Nuan quickly declined.

She knew if the police came, she'd truly be done for.

"Alright then." The woman didn't push. "As long as you're fine. We'll head back now."

"Yes, thank you. Really, thank you both."

"Don't mention it. It was nothing."

The middle-aged couple left.

An Nuan didn't linger either as she departed right away too.

She knew they must be under surveillance already.

Once under surveillance, finding evidence would become exceedingly difficult. She had to hurry.

An Nuan made straight for the fireworks factory at Laitan Town.

Since it was still some ways from Laitan Town, she took a taxi.

Upon hearing she wanted to go to the fireworks factory, the taxi driver was shocked. "What's a young woman like you doing going there so late? Don't you know a major accident just happened there?"

"My husband worked at the factory. He died in the explosion. I want to see the last place he worked."

"What's the point visiting it now that he's dead?" The driver said helplessly.

"I have to go."

The driver just shook his head without arguing further, figuring An Nuan was in denial about the tragedy.

An Nuan also remained silent.

She wondered if Ye Jinghuai's ears were burning right now...after all, she'd just called him her husband one moment then said he died the next...
